Our History

Anne C. Mears & her husband moved to Laramie from the East coast in 1949. Brainerd Mears was a geology teacher at the University of Wyoming for 40 years. Mears Morgans was born from a little girl's dream. Anne & Brainerd Mears daughter, Alisson, wanted a horse. They found a wonderful Morgan mare, Lori Rose, to participate in the 4 H program. This mare had a baby by her side and was in foal by UNH Astronaut, World Champion Stallion. From then on, Anne has been breeding morgans trying to conserve the athletism and the great disposition of the old New England lines. In 1974, she partnered with Ted Willrich to bring up the wonderful stallion MM Lynndon, who then was crowned WC park Harness in 1979 with Bob Whitney.

In 2000, Anne Mears was inducted in the AMHA Hall of Fame for her dedication and her great contribution to the morgan world. She has been breeding wonderful and competitive morgan horses that were and are successful in the show ring as well as on the Open competition circuit like MM lynndon, LR Ami Beauregard, LR Ami Bengali, LR Ami Sultan, LR Ami Tiger Would, LR Ami B-Line... We are breeding, training, showing & selling morgan horses. We also open our facility to boarders [Boarding information]. We host clinics and the Windy Wyoming Horse trials [News & Events]. We participate at various Morgan Horse Shows, horse trials and schooling shows in jumping and dressage.

Our Facility

Mears Morgans is located 10 minutes West of Laramie, Wyoming on Highway 230.
The ranch runs on the Laramie river over 1,200 acres.

The main barn contains an office, 6 stalls, 2 tack rooms and large crossties as well as an 120 x 70 indoor arena. The coverall contains 8 stalls, a cross tie, a round pen and a fully equipped reproductive laboratory. Other facilities include 15 runs available for boarders, large paddocks with access to wide pastures also available to boarders, 2 large outdoor arenas, a beautiful cross country course from Beginner novice to Preliminary level and miles of trail riding.

Meet our staff

Anne C. Mears has been the owner of Mears Morgans since its creation. She has been breeding morgans for over 30 years. She is also very present on the show scene as she presents awards at many shows including Circle J and Nationals.

Her trainer, Mallory Mignot, comes from Normandy, France where she competed ponies in show jumping for 10 years. She now specializes in training Hunter & Western horses for the show ring as well as Jumpers & Eventers. She has a Master in Animal Production from France and a Master in Reproductive Biology from the University of Wyoming

We have great veterinary care from Alpine Animal Hospital; as well as wonderful shoeing with Jon Stroh for our show shoeing.
